BURLINGTON, Vt. – Dakota Savitcheff scored seven goals to lead the Albany Great Danes to an 18-6 victory over Vermont in the America East women's lacrosse opener for both teams in at Virtue Field on Saturday night. The contest marked the first night lacrosse game on Virtue Field for the Catamounts.Â
Albany improves to 4-3 overall and begins league play with a 1-0 mark. Vermont falls to 3-6 on the year and 0-1 in America East.RELATED LINKS

Sarah Martin added six points on four goals and a pair of assists and Rachel Bowles chipped in four goals for Albany.

Vanessa VanderZalm netted two goals each to pace the Catamounts.

The two teams traded scores over the first 13 minutes of action, but the Great Danes broke the 2-2 tie by rattling of 10 straight goals over the next 17 minutes to take a 12-2 lead at the half. Savitcheff and Martin combined for seven tallies during the run for the Great Danes.

Albany extended its lead to 11 on a pair of goals from Savitcheff to start the second half. Vermont would cut the lead to 10 on back-to-back goals by
Brynne Yarranton and VanderZalm, but that was as close as UVM could get the rest of the way.

Maddy Kuras and
Catherine Green combined for seven stops in the Vermont net, while Courtney Henderson picked up the win with four stops for Albany. Henderson was relieved by Emily Bitka in the final 5:21 of the contest.
