"The second half was important for us to lift and operate at another level," said head coach
Jesse Cormier. "Our energy was the difference today. Energy to press, energy to show, concentrated energy to attack and have the necessary quality to succeed against a very good team."
Â
LIU Brooklyn (2-2) had the territorial edge in the first half, but rookie
Aron Runarsson made both of his two saves on the afternoon to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Â
Vermont regrouped at the break and opened the scoring in the 59
th minute.
Stefan Lamanna sprung Wright down the left flank and the senior dribbed into the box against LIU keeper Tyler Keys. Wright delayed before feeding a pass across the top of the six-yard box for Yeboah, who finished into the roof of the net for his third goal of the weekend.
Â
Wright was the catalyst on the Catamounts' second goal when he gathered the ball along the right end line. The senior sent a chip to the top of the six, setting up an easy finish off the head of
Charlie DeFeo.
Â
With 15 minutes to play, Wright provided the scoring touch as he beat an LIU defender and cut to his left foot at the corner of the six. The forward ripped a shot across the face of goal just inside the right post to seal the win.
Runarsson posted his second straight shutout to begin his college career, while the Catamounts registered their third consecutive clean sheet as a team. Wright and Yeboah have combined for 10 goals and six assists for 26 points in the first four games of the season. The duo was joined on the All-Tournament Team by
Jackson Dayton,
Loftur Eriksson, and
Shane Haley.
Â
