Kristina White led the Catamounts with 18 points, while Crymble's 10 boards were a team-high.

UVM never allowed the Retrievers significant breathing room in the first half. Although the Catamounts did not gain their first lead until late in the second quarter, the squad never trailed by more than five points in the opening 20 minutes. The Retrievers had the upper hand by a 27-26 margin at the break.

The tables turned coming out of halftime as the Catamounts netted 10 of the first 15 points of the third period. Hot 3-point shooting largely played into the sequence as the Catamounts drained from beyond the arc courtesy of
Sydney Smith and White, the latter of whom notched the entirety of her scoring from downtown. However, UMBC clawed its way back from a six-point deficit and snagged a one-point advantage at quarter's end when Pandora Wilson hit a layup in the paint.

Vermont clung to a two-point lead for the better part of three minutes as the final stages of regulation approached, holding the Retrievers scoreless until Tyler Moore evened things at 54-all with just under two minutes on the clock. A key pair of free throws by Crymble later gave the Catamounts a 57-56 lead with less than 60 seconds remaining. Crymble then came through in the clutch again with 17.6 seconds, driving for a layup that ultimately sent the game to OT at 59-apiece.

Although
Hayley Robertson helped Vermont pull in front with a trey early in the extra session, the Retrievers responded with six unanswered points, sealing the win on a pair from downtown by Moore.

The game was never out of reach for either side as a combined 12 lead changes took place throughout the second half and the extra session.

UMBC had four players in double-figure scoring, paced by Taylor McCarley's 23 on the day. She also led the Retrievers with nine rebounds.

The Retrievers (6-11, 1-3 AE) notch their first conference win of the season, while the Catamounts fall to 4-12 on the season and 1-3 in America East action.

UVM is on the hardwood again on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 16), playing host to twin state rival New Hampshire at 1 p.m. at Patrick Gymnasium.
