The Green and Gold record their third straight 10-win season for the first time since posting six consecutive such seasons from 1986-91.
Binghamton's offense forced UVM keeper
Aron Runarsson (8 saves) to make a pair of close-range saves early in the match. From the left side of the box, Ben Ovetsky drove a low shot but Runarsson dove on the turf to make the stop. On the rebound, Harrison Weilbacher fired an attempt on frame but the 6-4 sophomore leaped and deflected the scoring threat away.
Freitas broke the scoreless tie in the 59th minute after working a give-and-go with
Jon Arnar Barðdal. Freitas charged towards the box and dished a pass to his right for Barðdal, who one-timed a soft touch back towards the left post. Freitas held off a Bearcat defender and booted the go-ahead score into the bottom left corner of the net.
The 5-10 forward added his second goal of the afternoon in the 65th minute. Alves carried the ball into the box from midfield, then with some nifty footwork, heel-kicked a pass through two Binghamton defenders. Freitas collected the feed on the right side of the six-yard box and lined a shot inside of the far post.
The contest marked the final regular season game at Virtue Field for four Catamounts –
Arthur Bacquet,
Tom Cole,
Zack Evans, and
Eamon Kitson.
