CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Kristina White scored 11 points for Vermont, but that was not enough to contain No. 24 Miami. The Catamounts fell to 0-2 on the season following a 73-49 loss to the Hurricanes (2-0) at the Watsco Center on Sunday afternoon. It was Catamounts' first matchup with an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent in nearly three years.Â

White scored her 11 points by shooting 4-12 from the floor, including 2-7 from beyond the three-point line. The only other Catamount to score in double-figures was
Lauren Handy, who contributed 10 points off the bench.
Candice Wright grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Vermont hung tight early on, as it only trailed 15-13 at the end of the first quarter. However, Miami outscored UVM by nine in the second quarter and by 14 points in the third. The Catamounts actually outscored the Hurricanes in the fourth quarter but that was not enough to mount a comeback.
Miami was led by freshman guard Mykea Gray, who scored 21 points after dropping 27 again Florida International two days prior in her collegiate debut. Seniors Keyanna Harris and Erykah Davenport added an additional 10 points each to help pace the Hurricanes to a comfortable victory. Â
The Catamounts played most of the game in foul trouble. Back-up point guard Kianna Funderburk fouled out, while forward
Hanna Crymble had four fouls by the midway point in the third quarter.

UVM did a solid job at forcing turnovers, as Miami committed 23 in the game. The Hurricanes only averaged 16 turnovers per game in the 2016-17 season. However, the Catamounts lost the battles for points off turnovers (32-10) and fast break points (11-0). Â
