BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Catamounts and Retrievers were neck-and-neck for the majority of the first half, but UMBC used a strong second half to pull away from UVM. The Retrievers dealt a 23-16 America East defeat to the green and gold on Saturday in the regular season finale.

Vermont closes the books on the 2017 season with a 1-15 overall record and 0-6 in conference play. UMBC finishes the regular season at 11-5 overall and 4-2 in league play. The Retrievers have clinched the No. 3 seed in next week's America East Tournament.
The Catamounts had scoring from all angles as six different players scored a goal.
Brynne Yarranton finished her UVM career in style with a career-high five goals. The senior also won six draw controls and scooped up a pair of ground balls.
Jenna Janes tallied her sixth hat trick of the season with four goals and three assists.
Elena McWright recorded her second-career hat trick and
Alison Bolt added two goals.
Maddy Kuras made 16 saves in goal for the green and gold.
Lauren McDonald had a big day for the Retrievers with nine goals and handed out an assist. Sam Nolan posted four goals and four assists while Carolyn Jamison notched three goals and distributed a pair of assists. UMBC had four players record a hat trick as Sara Moeller added three goals. Ashley Peacock saved 10 shots in goal to pick up her 11th win of the season.
In the opening minute, UMBC jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Nolan and McDonald each scored a goal. Vermont responded with four unanswered goals, including a pair from Yarranton, and took a 4-2 lead by the 22:30 mark.
The conference foes traded goals past the midway point of the period until UMBC produced a five-goal run and grabbed an 11-7 advantage with 8:41 left in the first half. In the final seven minutes, UVM netted three out of the final four goals and closed the gap to 12-10 at halftime.
The two team swapped goals to begin the second half but UMBC stretched its lead to 17-11 with four straight goals as the clock ticked towards the 15-minute mark. After McWright and Yarranton found the back of the net, the Retrievers netted six out of game's next eight goals to put the game out of reach for the Cats.
Saturday marked the final game for the Catamounts' seven seniors -

Brynne Yarranton. The Class of 2017 won a total of 30 games in their careers, which is tied for the fourth-most by a graduating class.
2017 RALLY AWARDS
The 2017 Rally Awards presented by XFINITY are vastly approaching. The ceremony takes place on Tuesday, May 9 at 7:15 p.m. in the historic Flynn Theatre in downtown Burlington. The event is free and open to the public. The Rally Awards is an all-sports celebration highlighting the accomplishments of student-athletes at the University of Vermont.
