Scott '14 and Caitlin '12 Patterson Both Make U.S. Olympic Cross Country Ski Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former UVM Nordic All-American siblings Scott '14 and Caitlin '12 Patterson have both been named to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team in the sport of cross-country skiing, as announced on Friday by U.S. Ski and Snowboard.

The Patterson siblings represent two of 20 cross-country skiers named to the U.S. squad for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in South Korea next month. The Pattersons will both be making their Olympic debuts in PyeongChang and bring the Catamounts' representation on Team USA to five.

"Caitlin and Scott are two of the most hard-working, dedicated individuals I have worked with here at UVM," said UVM Nordic coach Patrick Weaver. "I am honored to have the opportunity to.work with these two. Nordic skiing is a lifetime sport and I am excited to have been able to be part of their journey to these Olympics."

Scott took the 2018 L.L. Bean U.S. Cross-Country Skiing 15K Freestyle Championship title by more than 55 seconds earlier this month. He was the 2011 EISA Men's Nordic Rookie of the Year and earned a pair of Second Team All-America honors for Vermont. Patterson finished his collegiate career with 13 wins and 19 podium appearances from 2011-14.

Caitlin, who skied for the Catamounts from 2009-12, won the U.S. Cross-Country Skiing 10K Freestyle Championship on the same day as her brother by nearly 20 seconds. She was a three-time All-American in college and a three-time member of the EISA All-East First Team. Patterson was also named the 2010 Female U.S. Junior Nordic Skier of the Year by Ski Racing Magazine.

The duo from Anchorage, Alaska will represent an American cross-country program which was ranked 17th in the world a decade ago. Today, the U.S. consistently finishes among the top-six nations in the sport.

Vermont will have nine former or current athletes competing in the PyeongChang Games, which kick off on Feb. 9 and conclude on Feb. 25. Cross-country skiing will be contested Feb. 10-25 and competition will be held at the Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre in the PyeongChang Mountain Cluster.
