COACH'S QUOTE
"We needed to create more chances and get more shots to the net today. Albany is dangerous when you allow them vision and space to shoot, and we needed to contest their shots a bit better," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "I believe in this team and what we are capable of. We are looking forward to competing at the America East Championships next week. Our five seniors have seen the program through a period of exponential growth and I'm grateful for their passion and commitment."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont pushed the pace early as they applied pressure on the Great Danes' defense, but were unable to get a shot to the net.
- Clodagh Ferry dished out several passes on the penalty corners throughout the game for the Catamounts, but was stifled by Albany.
- Beerkens' game-winning goal came as she received the ball downfield and sprinted near the goal with a Vermont defender in close proximity. The Albany midfielder paused before firing a shot past Sierra Espeland (3 saves) in the far corner.
- Albany's second goal came in the 40th minute off a penalty corner. Dana Bozek attempted a shot that was blocked by Vermont but scooped up Beerkens who quickly shot the ball in the open net.
- Bozek scored later on in the 62nd minute when she ran down the right side of the field and cut to the middle before slapping a shot over the glove of Espeland.
NOTES
- Vermont finishes the America East regular season with a 4-4 record and have earned three seed in the America East tournament.
- The Australian, Scottish, and United States national anthems were played before the game to honor the seniors and their home countries.
