COACH'S QUOTE
"I'm not a big believer in moral victories," said head coach
Alisa Kresge. "That loss stings. We are going to have to work through these growing pains as we continue to grow. That being said, I felt we grew up quickly tonight as we battled with an extremely athletic A10 team and handled their full-court pressure. There are good things we will continue to build upon."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rhode Island built an early 9-0 lead in the opening four minutes with scoring from four different players. Hanna Crymble scored four points to help Vermont chip into the Rams' early lead and make it 14-10 URI after the first quarter.
- Riding their late first quarter momentum Vermont took its first lead of the game at the 5:44 mark with Josie Larkins second three-pointer of the quarter. Larkins hit a third shot from downtown to give the Catamounts a 26-23 lead at the half.
- Crymble was dominant in the third quarter for Vermont scoring 11 of their 15 points, but the Rams balanced attack helped URI take a four-point cushion into the final frame.
- After a back and forth final quarter Crymble gave the Catamounts a 58-55 lead with 1:38 left in regulation. 15 seconds later Elemy Colome cut the Vermont advantage to one with a jumper.
- After a defensive stop from the Rams Maia Moffitt went to the free throw line with 33 seconds left and a chance to give URI the lead. She missed both free throws and Crymble grabbed the board, but an inadvertent whistle forced Vermont to inbound the ball.
- On the ensuing play the Catamounts were called for a five-second violation before inbounding the ball. Oberg capitalized on Vermont's 18th turnover of the afternoon converting off glass to give the Rams the lead for good.
