LOWELL, MASS.– The Catamounts' two-game winning streak was snapped on Sunday afternoon with a 65-60 loss at UMass Lowell. With the win, the River Hawks snapped a 15-game losing streak and earned their first America East win since Feb. 8, 2016 (which came at Vermont).

"Today's game was so unfortunate for our program," said UVM head coach
Chris Day. "We had a chance to really pick up some steam and we did not have it today. We will regroup and get for Binghamton on Wednesday night."

The Catamounts controlled the tempo early on and led 27-22 at halftime. UMass Lowell claimed the lead midway through the third quarter before Vermont went on a 9-0 run to take it back. However, UMass Lowell outscored UVM 22-9 in the third quarter and swung the momentum in their favor.

The River Hawks dictated the fourth quarter and played a clean brand of basketball, maintaining their distance from the Catamounts in order to secure the victory.

Sydney Smith led UVM with 19 points (2-6 3PT), six rebounds and three steals. The senior co-captain finished the game 7-12 from the floor in 27 minutes of action.

Smith was not the only Catamount to score at least 10 points in the game.
Hanna Crymble added 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Crymble has now registered double-figures in the scoring column in 22 of the 25 games that she has played in this season.

Meanwhile, redshirt-senior co-captain
Kristina White contributed with eight points and three rebounds, while redshirt-junior
Cassidy Derda added eight points and four rebounds of her own.

UMass Lowell was led by three players in double-figures: Kayla Gibbs (19 pts), Brianna Rudolph (15) and Paula Lopez (12).

The River Hawks won the battle on the boards with 35 rebounds to the Catamounts' 31, while UVM won the turnover battle with 14, as opposed to UMass Lowell's 15.

With the loss, Vermont is now 8-17 overall, 2-9 on the road and 5-7 in America East play. Meanwhile, UMass Lowell improves to 4-21 overall, 3-9 at home and 1-11 in conference play. UVM and UMass Lowell split the season series at 1-1. With the win, the River Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak against the Catamounts.

As a team, Vermont shot 40% from the field, 21% from downtown (6-28) and 80% at the free throw line (8-10). Meanwhile, UMass Lowell went 44% from the floor, 15% from distance (2-13) and 85% at the foul line (17-20).

Next up, UVM continues the three-game road trip with the second game at Binghamton on Wednesday night (Feb. 14). The Catamounts are 0-1 against the Bearcats on the year and Binghamton is coming off a bye week.
