BURLINGTON, Vt.– Vermont opened the final homestand of the 2017-18 regular season with a 79-47 loss to Maine on Thursday night. With the win, the Black Bears swept the regular season series.

Maine opened the game pushing the pace, shooting 63% in the first quarter in order to take a 28-10 lead after the initial ten minutes. The Black Bears added to their lead and took a 21-point advantage (43-22).

The Catamounts played their best basketball to begin the second half, tying the Black Bears 17-17 for the third quarter. However, Maine went on to outscore UVM in the final period 19-9 to wrap up a 79-47 road victory.

Maine was led by Blanca Millan, who scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds. Millan was aided by Tanesha Sutton, who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards.

Hanna Crymble led the way for the Catamounts with 15 points and three rebounds. The two-time America East Player of the Week has now recorded double-figures in the scoring column in 23 of the 28 games that she has played in during her sophomore campaign.

Kristina White added 10 points for UVM, going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Meanwhile,Â
Sydney Smith recorded the most rebounds (5) for the Catamounts but failed to score, going 0-5 from the floor.

Off the bench,
Candice Wright scored three points and secured four rebounds. UVM's all-time leading shot blocker also added three blocks to her record total.

UVM has lost the last two games by margins of greater than 30 points. The Catamounts have also dropped four straight games, while the Black Bears increased their winning streak to three games and have won 10 of their last 11 contests.

With the loss, Vermont is now 8-20 overall, 6-9 at home and 5-10 in America East play. Meanwhile, Maine improves to 19-9 overall, 8-7 on the road and 12-3 in conference play.

As a team, Vermont shot 35% from the field, 15% from downtown (3-20) and 67% at the free throw line (8-12). Meanwhile, Maine went 46% from the floor, 30% from distance (8-27) and 73% at the foul line (11-15).

Next up, UVM concludes the regular season with Senior Day at Patrick Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 25). Vermont hosts Stony Brook at 2 p.m. Before the game, the Catamounts will honor the four seniors: captains
