BURLINGTON, Vt. – UVM Athletics will host a Catamount Olympic Celebration prior to the men's lacrosse home game against UMass Lowell this Saturday (April 7) at 1 p.m. U.S. Olympic women's ice hockey gold medalist Amanda Pelkey '15 and South African alpine skier Connor Wilson '21 will be honored in person at Virtue Field.
All fans in attendance will receive a free UVM Olympic poster, and Pelkey and Wilson will be available for autographs following the pre-game ceremony. Tickets are available at a discounted rate of $2 and are free for kids 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased online at

Pelkey will also host a youth hockey clinic at Gutterson Fieldhouse from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday morning. The clinic is open to all youth hockey players, boys and girls players and goalies, and space is limited to 30 players on a first-come first-serve basis. Pelkey will run the clinic, participate in a quick fun scrimmage, showcase her gold medal, raffle off prizes, and sign autographs for participants.

Pelkey became the fifth Catamount ever to win Olympic gold after a dramatic Team USA shootout victory over rival Canada. Wilson, a freshman student at UVM, was the only Winter Olympic athlete to represent South Africa and served as the flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
Jonathan Nordbotten '14 also won a bronze medal in the inaugural alpine skiing team event with Norway. Kevin Drury '14 narrowly missed the podium for Canada in men's ski cross, placing fourth overall.
A total of 12 athletes with ties to UVM competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics last month in PyeongChang, including a school-record nine former or current student-athletes. The mark of nine Catamount Olympians surpassed the previous school record of six during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
