Stony Brook, N.Y. – Nick Washuta made 16 saves between the pipes and
Ian MacKay tallied six points, but the Stony Brook Seawolves knocked off the 16th-ranked Catamounts 8-7 in double overtime on Saturday.

Vermont falls to 10-2 on the season and 3-2 in America East play. Stony Brook improves to 5-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The Seawolves scored the opening three goals of the game and held a 3-0 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

Vermont began the second quarter on its first man-up opportunity, and MacKay needed just 16 seconds to put the Cats on the board with a shot from distance.

Dawes Milchling made it 3-2 with a transition goal following a long pass from defenseman
Andrew Simeon for the assist.

MacKay scored another goal from distance with 1:33 left in the half after a Stony Brook goal to cut the lead to 4-3 in favor of the Seawolves. Â Â

Washuta finished the half with 10 saves and limited Stony Brook's rebound chances with several clean saves. Bollinger finished with nine saves on the other side of the field.

Braiden Davis tied the game and
Ben French gave UVM its first lead of the game in the first 2:53 of the third quarter. MacKay picked up the assist on both goals for his third and fourth points of the game.

After nearly 15 minutes of scoreless play, MacKay completed the hat trick with 13:41 left in the fourth to give the Cats a 6-4 lead. Davis picked up his first assist of the game on the goal.

Stony Brook flipped the momentum and scored the following three goals to take a 7-6 lead with 6:12 remaining. Wayne White, Tom Haun, and Jack White each scored to give Stony Brook the lead.

Rob Hudson tallied his first point of the game and tied the game at 7-7 with 2:39 remaining off of MacKay's third assist and sixth point of the game.

Neither team found a game-winning goal in a tense final 2:39 of regulation that saw possessions at either end of the field.

Each team had unsuccessful chances in the first overtime period and the horn sounded to push the game to double overtime. Â

Stony Brook gained possession to start the second overtime at the X and scored 1:11 into the period following a timeout. Chris Pickel netted the game-winning goal off a feed from Jack Walsh.
Erdmann went 12-for-18 at the X and grabbed three ground balls. Simeon also had three ground balls with Milchling, Washuta, and
James Leary each adding a pair.
