MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The University of Vermont men's and women's cross country squads competed at the Aldrich Invitational Saturday afternoon at Middlebury College.
The UVM men (57 pts.) were led by
Steven O'Driscoll as they raced to a second place finish behind host Middlebury (17 pts.) and ahead of Norwich (81 pts.) to round out the top three.
Toni Rabasco was the top finisher for the Vermont women (49 pts.) who also placed second in the team competition behind Middlebury (18 pts.) and ahead of St. Michaels (87 pts.).

"Today's race combined a very challenging course with brutal heat and humidity," said head coach
Matt Belfield. "We continue to be impressed with how the men and women are handling tough training and racing conditions thus far. They know their hard work will pay off and we'll feel great at the peak time of year. Steve and Toni really did stand out with excellent second halves of their races. Now we can look forward to a couple big nationally relevant races the next two weekends."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- O'Driscoll (7th) raced to the best overall finish of his rookie campaign with a time of 27:09.6 in the 8K (4.87 miles).
- Christian Groff (11th), Kasey Gelfand (12th) and Ross Elkort (15th) crossed the line shortly after for four Catamounts in the top 15.
- Rabasco registered a personal-best fourth place finish in the 5K (3.05 miles) with a time of 20:04.8
- Savanah Tebeau-Sherry (10th), Maggie Mahoney (11th), and Lexi Sutyak (14th) rounded out UVM's finishers in the overall top 15.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Vermont men return to action Friday (Sep. 21) for the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College. The race is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
