National Polls: United Soccer Coaches | Top Drawer Soccer
NATIONAL RANKINGS
In addition to its No. 24 ranking in last Tuesday's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll, Vermont also cracked the top-25 in Top Drawer Soccer's Men's Division I poll on Monday. The Catamounts sit at No. 20, three spots ahead of Rhode Island as the only New England programs to make the list.
NCAA STATS LEADERS
UVM is one of the top statistical teams in the country. The Cats rank sixth in shots per game (17.0), sixth in goals scored (15), and eighth in scoring offense (2.50 goals/game).
Geo Alves' two-game winning goals are ninth-best in Division I and
Justin Freitas has logged the 15th-most points (11). The senior forwards have climbed into the top-25 with four goals apiece.
SMILE FOR THE CAMARA
After scoring his first career goal at Colgate on Sunday,
Manuel Camara was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday. The freshman found the back of the net in the 12th minute after finishing a pass from Alves. In his first season as a Catamount, Camara has played in every match and he is one of three freshmen with at least two points under his belt.
SCOUTING SIENA
The Saints will hit the road for the first time in four matches as the group from the Capital Region are coming off a 2-1 overtime thriller against Sacred Heart on Saturday. Siena has one of the top scoring offenses in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with 23 points, trailing only Manhattan for the top spot. On the defensive end, the Saints hold a share of the league lead with a .767 save percentage. The duo of Aaron Martin and Matt Crisafulli have registered five points on two goals and one assist each. Linus Johansson has matched Martin and Crisafulli with five points, including a MAAC-leading three assists. Goalie Greg Monroe has recorded a 1.83 goals-against average and ranks as the MAAC frontrunner with 44 saves.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The two programs will revisit the all-time series after a seven year break. The Catamounts have commanded the head-to-head series against the Saints with a 9-1 record. UVM won the first seven matches before Siena broke into the win column in 2009. Vermont has found its offensive rhythm against Siena and has outscored its regional rival 24-5 with seven clean sheets.
