BALTIMORE, Md. – UVM sophomore Alyssa Oviedo scored in the 89th minute to give the Catamounts a 1-0 conference win at UMBC on Sunday afternoon. Vermont sits at 3-7-2 on the year and 1-3-1 in the league standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Brooke Jenkins had a chance to give the Cats an early lead in the 10th minute. Off a cross, the graduate senior tried to knock a header into the back of the net but her shot was directed at goalie Jade Wilkins (4 saves) for the easy save.
• Late in the first half, the Retrievers looked to get on the board. Danielle Fuentes sprinted into the box from the left side, made one move to her right, and fired a strike towards the far post but Kacey Lambertson punched the ball over the crossbar.
• With about 1:20 left before the recess, Jenkins pushed the ball into the middle of the field and sent a through ball out wide for Maddie Masengarb. The junior dribbled in from the right side but could not keep her shot from sailing over the crossbar.
• In the 52nd minute, Vermont was presented with a penalty kick. Jenkins looked to sneak a ball inside of the left post but misfired to the left.
• When the match looked destined for overtime, the Green and Gold broke the scoreless tie with 1:55 left on the clock. Christina Barry cleared a ball away from the defensive midfield into the attacking midfield. Karen Wallace headed the ball forward and Oviedo sprinted ahead of the defense for a breakaway, then buried the decisive goal into the bottom right corner of the net. 

GAME NOTES

• Oviedo's game-winning goal was the second of her career. The sophomore netted a walk-off goal in a 2-1 overtime victory at Maine last season.  
• Lambertson finished the contest with six saves and recorded her second clean sheet of the season.
• UVM extended its lead in the all-time series to 10-5-3 and have won six of the last seven meetings.
• With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish Vermont; bringing this year's total to 71 wins and $7,100.
