COACH'S QUOTE
"It was disappointing to not be able to finish off the sweep, but it was encouraging to score regularly this weekend," said head coach Jim Plumer. "Our team battles with some adversity and for that I'm proud. We look forward to building on this weekend next week against a very good St. Lawrence team."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT struck first for the second game in a row when Hunter Barnett buried a rebound goal on Natalie Ferenc (9 saves) at the midway point of the first period. Barnett's power-play marker was assisted by Taylor Baker and Abby Davies.
  • Sini Karjalainen netted her first goal of the season minutes later on the power play with a blast from the point that beat Terra Lanteigne (37 saves). The sophomore blueliner one-timed a pass from Maude Poulin-Labelle with 4:46 left in the opening frame. Corinne McCool had an assist on the tying goal.
  • Five goals were exchanged in the second period between the two schools, but RIT had the 4-3 edge heading into the third period. Val Caldwell scored her second power-play marker of the weekend and Theresa Schafzahl chipped in her first of the year after an RIT goal later in the frame. Poulin-Labelle earned assists on both tallies for the Catamounts, but Emily Stemple registered two goals in 36 seconds to give the Tigers the lead before the break.
  • McCool nabbed the equalizer with 10:31 left in the third period as the Catamounts heavily outshot the Tigers 14-5 in the final frame.
  • Vermont tallied three shots on goal in overtime and prevented RIT from testing Blanka Škodová (7 saves) in the extra frame.
NOTES
  • UVM recorded 41 shots on goal, which is its highest total in a game since they posted 44 shots against the Tigers on Nov. 24, 2017. They hit the 40-mark once last season against Holy Cross on Feb. 16, 2019.
