Balanced Attack Leads Women’s Basketball Over Norwich

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 86, Norwich 40
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Seven Catamounts scored six or more points as Vermont defeated Norwich 86-40 Wednesday night from Patrick Gym in a cross-state non-conference matchup. With the win, the Catamounts improved to 3-6 this season while the Cadets fell to 2-4.

COACH'S QUOTE
"It was a good team win," said Head Coach Alisa Kresge. "We got contributions from everyone. We need to have two good days of practice to get ready for a good Canisius team. Our main focus will be to work hard and try to get better each day."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Josie Larkins had five points and Emma Utterback added four more as UVM opened the game on a 13-2 run. The Catamounts carried a 23-7 lead into the second frame.
  • Norwich hung tough in the second quarter, the Cadets leading scorer Riley Bennett hit a three-pointer as Norwich opened the frame with five early points. Nicole Crum answered with her first three-pointer of the season as Vermont outscored Norwich 13-11 in the quarter and carried an 18-point advantage into the half.
  • Hanna Crymble scored six points as Vermont opened the second half with a 13-4 run. At the tail end of the quarter Larkins added six more points and UVM opened up a 35-point edge with a 14-3 run.
  • UVM outscored Norwich 23-12 in the final frame to lock up their third home win of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Eight different Catamounts scored in the first half. Vermont scored a season-high 86 points.
  • UVM scored 27 points off Norwich's 21 turnovers, the Catamounts scored 11 fast break points.
  • With 1:47 left in the first half Abby Settelmeyer scored her first career points with a jumper. In the third quarter freshman guard Jane McCauley hit her first-career field goal with a three-pointer.
  • Carmen Handy (10 points), Jane McCauley (6 points) and Abby Settelmeyer (4 points) all posted career-high games in points. Emma Utterback set a new career-high with six assists.
  • With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish Vermont, bringing this year's total to 102 wins and $10,200. A special thank you to Vermont Mutual Insurance for their support. Vermont Mutual Insurance, protecting Vermonters since 1828.
