The award recognizes student-athletes who have displayed academic and athletic excellence both this past season and throughout their careers. Nominees for the award must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and only one person can win the award for each sport.
Trumble wins the award as the representative for America East women's cross country after posting a 3.82 GPA through the Fall 2018 semester at UVM. A member of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Vermont senior majors in biology with a minor in anthropology.
"Our team, and dare I say, our campus, has never had a better model of the student-athlete than
Lauren Trumble," said head coach
Matt Belfield. "She is tough yet kind, fully committed yet balanced, and has a knack for performing at her best when the stakes are high. The example Lauren sets for her teammates as a student is outstanding; and she certainly debunks the myth that you can't be a great athlete, a great student and have a life all at the same time. Lauren is a blessing to our program and will leave this place way better than she found it."
Trumble has consistently displayed academic excellence after being listed on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her three prior seasons. In the fall of 2018, she was named to the America East All-Academic team.
She also had success on the cross country trails earning a spot on the America East All-Conference First Team in 2018. Trumble recorded a personal-best 5k time of 17:30.0 at the America East Championship to finish fourth place. The women's cross country captain registered top-five finishes in four of six meets in her senior season, including a victory at the Vermont Fall Foliage Invitational.
A member of the women's track & field team as well, Trumble and the Catamounts begin a busy weekend of meets at Boston University's Valentine Invite (Feb. 8 & 9) and the North Country All-Comers at home in Gardner-Collins Indoor Track (Feb. 9).
