BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont made a late second-half but fell short in its home opener to Colgate 10-8 on Sunday afternoon. The Catamounts slip to 1-1 while the Raider stand at 2-0 to begin the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Colgate's Noelle Patterson (4 goals, 1 assist) scored an early hat trick as a part of a 4-1 start in the first 13 minutes. UVM clawed back near the midway point of the first half with two unassisted goals from Ava Vasile and Dani Paterno to draw within 4-3.
• The Raiders closed out the half with four unanswered goals and took an 8-3 lead in the break.
• MacKenzie Bolt stopped the run with an unassisted goal 36 seconds in the final half, but Colgate tacked on two more scores and padded the advantage to 10-4.
• In the final 11 minutes of the contest, the Catamounts netted four goals and cut the deficit to 10-8. Vasile buried three goals in a three-minute span for the Cats and McKenzie Ballard capped off the run at the 4:05 mark.

GAME NOTES

• Vasile led the offensive attack with a team-high four goals. The freshman scored on all four of her shots and won one draw control.
• Ballard finished the afternoon with two goals and caused one turnover.
• Bolt and Paterno added one goal each. Bolt picked up three ground balls and caused three turnovers.
• Goalie Sophie McLaughlin stopped 11 shots in the setback.
