Dear Catamount Country,
 
As you may have heard. this afternoon the America East Conference announced the postponement of all fall sport competition and championships for the duration of the first semester. At UVM, this includes our teams in men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and field hockey. Decisions about winter and spring sports and the shifting of fall sports to spring semester will be made at a later date.
 
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to present challenges to every aspect of our society including the world of sports. As you know, the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and community will always be our top priority. Given the continued risks associated with the coronavirus, strict quarantine requirements, and the uncertainty about being able to complete our seasons, the most responsible course of action was to postpone fall sport competition and do so before student-athletes return for preseason practice. We feel strongly that our student-athletes deserve an experience that is more certain than current conditions allow.  
 
I know you join me in sending our thoughts and appreciation to all Catamount fall sport student-athletes, coaches and staff who have worked tirelessly to prepare for their seasons. Despite their disappointment, I know that when circumstances permit (hopefully this spring), they will again put on the Green and Gold and represent Catamount Country with the same pride and dedication that has defined UVM Athletics for generations.  
 
We know what an important role Catamount teams play in the lives of our fans, our campus, alumni and the broader community. You have our commitment that we will do everything in our power to resume competition as soon as it is safe to do so. We can't wait to be back in your company cheering on the Catamounts.
