COACH'S QUOTE
"It was a hard-fought battle in Boston today and we really tightened up our game," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "I'm very proud of our defensive effort, limiting BU to just 11 shots including overtime. Our offense is still a work in progress and I'm excited for the challenge of playing a strong UConn team tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont opened the scoring 11:07 into the first period on a fortuitous bounce in front. From a sharp angle Poulin-Labelle fired a shot and it deflected off a Terriers defenseman and in past BU's Kate Stuart. Alyssa Holmes and Corinne McCool earned assists on the goal.
- The Catamounts defense stymied the Terriers early in the game just allowing one shot in the opening 27 minutes of the contest.
- BU was able to break through four minutes into the third period. Emma Wuthrich scored her third goal of the season on a wraparound surprising UVM's Blanka Škodová with a quick release.
- The teams headed into overtime with UVM holding a 21-9 advantage in shots. UVM's Natálie Mlýnková had the best chance in the overtime session with a breakaway but she was unable to score her second straight game-winning goal. UVM outshot BU 3-2 in the extra session.
- Correia scored first in the shootout with a nifty deke to her backhand to give the Terriers an early edge. Tynka Pátková, Kristina Shanahan and Mlýnková were stopped by BU's Stuart to seal the valuable third point between the two teams.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- This evening was the second time this season Vermont has held an opponent to just 11 shots. UVM also managed the feat in its season opener against RPI on October 1.
- Sara Levesque blocked a team-high three shots this evening. She has blocked 11 shots this year for the Catamounts.
