COACH'S QUOTE
"It was a disappointing weekend on the scoreboard but not in the way we played," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "We have improved in so many areas and unfortunately we are not putting pucks in the net. Our defensive effort was excellent again today. I know that if we keep playing at this pace that the results will follow."
"For now, we will wish our international players
Natálie Mlýnková, Tynka Pátková,
Theresa Schafzahl and
Antonia Matzka luck as they join their national teams in an effort to qualify for the Olympics. We will see them in a couple of weeks."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period Vermont's leading scorer Natálie Mlýnková found the back of the net 6:21 into the second period. In transition, she fired a wrist shot from a sharp angle that fooled UConn's Samantha Carpentier-Yelle for her fourth goal of the campaign.
- UConn equalized with 12 seconds left in the middle frame. From behind the net Danielle Fox threw a centering feed into the crease that bounced off of UVM's Blanka Škodová skate and in along the near post. Taylor Wabick and Chloe Gonsalves assisted on Fox's fourth goal of the season.
- The Huskies almost won the contest in regulation with a three-on-one rush in the final minute. Jada Habisch ripped a wrist shot that hit the crossbar and caromed harmlessly into the corner.
- UVM had its own three-on-one opportunity early in the three-versus-three overtime. Alyssa Holmes fed a cross-ice pass to Kristina Shanahan but as Shanahan looked to send a return feed a sprawled UConn defender poked the puck off her stick.
- On the ensuing UConn rush the Huskies capitalized for the winner. With a two-on-one Natalie Snodgrass found Summer-Rae with a pass and she beat Škodová with a quick shot to claim the invaluable third Hockey East point.
