COACH'S QUOTE
"[We] can feel really proud of the effort today, it was one of our best matches but it just didn't go our way," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "The program has gone through a pretty major transformation during our seniors' time here and they've done everything they could to move the needle and I believe they have. I'm so proud of each and every one of them."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kate Hall had to beautiful chances in the first quarter but both times her turn-around shots were thwarted by Stag goalkeeper Zoe Rosen (16 saves).
- Sierra Espeland (2 saves) made a highlight-reel stop on the doorstep midway through the second quarter to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
- Fairfield struck for the game's only goal four minutes into the third off a penalty corner. Danielle Profita deftly redirected a Julianna Kratz shot into the upper netting to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
- The Cats best chance came with two minutes to go in the contest. Alina Gerke found space at the top of the circle and sent a one-time blast towards the back post. It whistled inches wide and just ahead of Jamie Borthwick's stick looking for a deflection.
