BURLINGTON, Vt. – Emma Utterback tallied a career-high 23 points to lead Vermont (4-4) to a 72-62 victory over Loyola Chicago (5-3) on Sunday afternoon at Patrick Gym. Utterback was one of four Catamounts to reach double figures against the Ramblers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont took a 12-7 lead after the first quarter, with Josie Larkins registering four points to lead the attack. Loyola Chicago led 4-2 in the early minutes of the opening frame, but the Catamounts rallied with a 9-0 run in a 3:19 span to take an 11-4 lead. UVM's largest lead of the quarter came with 4:11 left on the clock.
- The Ramblers briefly cut the deficit to three points early in the second quarter with driving layups by Julia Hoefling and Jala Johnson. Utterback had four points for UVM in the first 1:20 of the frame to keep the Cats in front. Vermont distanced itself in the middle portion of the second quarter with a 7-0 run that gave the Catamounts a 28-15 lead with 5:24 left in the frame. Another 6-0 run late in the quarter would give Vermont a 34-18 halftime lead.
- The two counterparts exchanged baskets to open the third quarter, until a three-point play by Allison Day sparked a Loyola Chicago run. The Ramblers outscored the Catamounts 11-2 in the final 3:19 to pull to within single digits for the first time since the 6:36 mark of the second quarter. Vermont remained in front with a 48-41 lead after three quarters.
- Loyola Chicago pulled to as close as five points twice in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, but Delaney Richason and Larkins each hit three pointers to preserve the UVM lead. Larkins' trey began a 14-5 run that gave Vermont a 67-53 lead with 0:50 left to ice the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Utterback hit 7-of-13 attempts from the field en route to her career day. The UVM guard cashed in 9-of-13 attempts from the line and nearly registered a double-double with eight rebounds.
- Richason had 18 points for Vermont, shooting 5-for-9 from the floor. The junior drilled a game-high three treys on four attempts from deep.
- Larkins tallied 13 points and matched a team-high four assists. Playing a team-high 34:19, Larkins was 3-for-5 from the field and converted on all six free throw attempts.
- Anna Olson had 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The sophomore also added two rebounds and two assists.
- Catherine Gilwee dished out a team-high four assists in her first career start.
- With tonight's win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Vermont Foodbank as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative.
