COACH'S QUOTE
"Sometimes you are the teacher, sometimes you are the student, and today we were students," said Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft. "After an excellent first game of the BU series, we got comfortable after scoring the first goal and chased for the rest of the evening against a powerful team. We did have some pieces of our game that showed signs of progress, our penalty kill and some of our freshmen's games for example, but we have yet to find our "whole" game yet."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts opened the scoring just 2:28 into the contest. First-year forward Dovar Tinling scored his first career goal on the Catamounts first shot of the game. In transition Bryce Misley hit Tinling in stride entering the BU zone, Tinling gathered the puck, spun and fired a wrist shot that surprised BU's Vinny Duplessis. Carter Long also earned an assist on the play.
- O'Brien equalized for BU just 1:27 later. Logan Cockerill found O'Brien parked at the side of the net for an easy tap-in to make it 1-1.
- With 4:42 left in the first period O'Brien score again, on a great individual effort. On the forecheck O'Brien forced a turnover at the UVM blue line and beat Vermont's Tyler Harmon with a quick wrist shot.
- With 1:02 left in the first period BU added another tally. Matthew Quercia scored his first goal of the season on a two-on-one. Quercia looked shot the whole time and fired a wrist shot under the arm of Harmon.
- Wilmer Skoog scored the only goal of the second period 11:55 into the middle frame. Again, the BU forecheck proved too much for the Catamounts, BU forced a turnover at the blue line and a couple of quick passes found Skoog alone in the slot for his second of the season.
- O'Brien completed the scoring with his third of the night 4:26 into the final frame. He stripped a UVM defender of the puck, fired a quick shot that bounced past Harmon into the crease before he tapped it home.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Christian Evers led the team with three blocked shots tonight, UVM had 10 as a team.
- Tyler Harmon made 32 saves in net for the Catamounts, it was the fifth time this season he has made 30 or more saves.
