COACH'S QUOTE
"I loved the energy from our team tonight and thought we were unlucky on a couple of our close chances not to convert," Head Coach
Kristi Huizenga said. "We were happy to keep a clean sheet against a team like Army and were able to utilize several players today which kept us strong through 110 minutes."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont's leading scorer this season Alyssa Oviedo almost opened the scoring in the seventh minute. From about 25 yards out she pounded a shot off the crossbar. Army's Sage Strohman made three additional saves in the first half as UVM outshot the Black Knights 7-3 in the opening 45.
- Oestreicher rose to the occasion in the second half making three key stops as Army made an offensive push in the half.
- With 1:36 left in regulation Oviedo was in alone with an Army defender, as Oviedo cut to the inside to get a shot off she appeared to be taken down on the play. Despite UVM calls for a penalty played continued.
- A minute later Oviedo almost combined on a game-winner with 23 seconds left in regulation. Oviedo played a perfect through ball to Ella Bankert and Bankert's chip shot beat Strohman but just missed the top corner.
- In the final four minutes of double overtime both teams had potential game-winners just miss. With 2:52 left in the contest Bailey Ayer one-timed a rebound opportunity and just missed the near post.
