BURLINGTON, Vt. – Theresa Schafzahl and Kristina Shanahan each had six points as Vermont defeated Saint Michael's 12-0 in exhibition action from Gutterson Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Schafzahl opened the scoring for the Catamounts 3:13 into the contest. Natálie Mlýnková and Maddy Skelton tallies made it 3-0 UVM with 3:07 left in the opening period. Schafzahl scored her second of the afternoon shorthanded with 18 seconds left in the first.
• Shanahan opened the second period scoring for UVM with another shorthanded marker 36 seconds into the frame. First year Evelyne Blais-Savoie scored her first career goal in the green and gold 67 seconds later to make it 6-0 for UVM. Just 1:05 after Blais-Savoie's tally Schafzahl found the back of the net again for the hat trick.
• Shanahan and Cam Morrissey scored in the final four minutes of the second to give UVM a commanding 9-0 lead headed to the third. It was also Morrissey's first goal as a Catamount.
• Schafzahl added two more goals in the third and Alyssa Holmes found the scoresheet as well as UVM completed its exhibition win over its crosstown rivals.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Evelyne Blais-Savoie, Antonia Matzka, Sydney Correa and Alaina Tanski made their UVM collegiate debuts this afternoon.
• Saint Michael's goaltender Gabriella Dicomitis made a game-high 22 saves in net for the Purple Knights. Her teammate and SMC starter Carissa Mudrak made 19 saves.
• Jessie McPherson (3 Saves) and Sydney Correa (2 Saves) combined for a five save shutout for UVM. In three of McPherson's five collegiate contests she has not given up a goal.

Vermont opens the regular season next weekend as they host RPI in a two-game non-conference series from Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Catamounts home opener is set for 6 p.m. Friday night.
