COACH'S QUOTE
"It was great to get on the board early with a well executed goal," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "We need to be better bout our game management in certain situations, as we put ourselves under unnecessary pressure in the backfield. We got away from our simple passing game and allowed UMass too many opportunities. We'll look to make those adjustments for Sunday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Clodagh Ferry got the Cats on the board first just 2:53 into the contest. Following a UMass turnover, Alina Gerke quickly found Kate Hall who lined up Ferry at the top of the circle. She fired a backhand shot into the cage for her third goal of the season.
- UMass tied the game thanks to Emily Marchio at the 9:08 mark. She guided a high loose ball in front of the cage following a deflection in front of Sierra Espeland.
- The Minutewomen took a 2-1 in the waning stages of the first quarter. Bella Ianni's initial shot was saved by Espeland but she got her own rebound and then sent a hard backhand into the goal.
- UVM had a golden chance with ten minutes gone in the third. Ferry gathered a turnover near the top of the circle and her backhand pass was deflected towards the Cage by Maddy Moran but it bounced wide.
- UMass got an insurance goal to make it 3-1 late in the fourth off its 10th penalty corner of the afternoon. Espeland made an initial save but a rebound in traffic bounced right to stick of Emilie Keij who made no mistake.
