COACH'S QUOTE
"UConn played a heck of a game and deserved the win," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "We certainly have to be better in every aspect of the game tomorrow and that's what we will be focused on."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies opened the scoring 6:35 into the first period. A UVM pass in the UConn zone was intercepted by Danielle Fox and she was able to skate in alone on UVM's Sydney Correa. Fox deked and slid the puck through Correa's legs for her sixth goal of the season.
- UConn doubled its advantage 3:54 later on a scramble in front of Correa's net. Sydney made a couple of initial saves but Viki Harkness was able to jam the puck home for her eighth goal of the season.
- The Huskies struck again 7:28 into the second period. Jada Habisch was behind the UVM defense in the neutral zone and Ava Rinker collected a loose puck and found her with a quick pass. Habisch scored her ninth of the season with a nice move in alone on Correa.
- Vermont was able to get one back on the power play with just a second left in the middle frame. Maude Poulin-Labelle lost her defender with a spinarama then as she skated into the slot she found Theresa Schafzahl to her right for a one-timed shot that just beat UConn's Megan Warrener at the post. Schafzahl's eighth tally of the season was also assisted by Corinne McCool.
- With 5:56 to go in the third the Huskies reestablished their three-goal lead off an aggressive forecheck. Correa made an initial save on a Snodgrass shot after she forced a turnover but Morgan Wabick tapped it home for her fourth goal of the season.
- Wabick closed out the scoring with 3:02 remaining as she and Summer-Rae Dobson converted on a two-on-one opportunity.
