COACH'S QUOTE
"This was a hard fought, tight checking battle that was typical of most of our games against UConn," Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "I thought we got better as the game went on and especially like the way we played in the third period. We had some chances that we didn't convert and we are going to have to be sharper tomorrow in what I'm sure will be a similar game."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Theresa Schafzahl opened the scoring for the Catamounts for the fourth straight game with her sixth goal of the season with just 12 seconds left in the opening period. On the forecheck Corinne McCool forced a turnover and tapped the puck off a UConn defender's stick towards the net. Schafzahl corralled the loose puck, skated into the slot and ripped a shot past UConn's Tia Chan.
  • The Huskies equalized with 5:57 left in the second period. UConn forced a turnover as Vermont tried to breakout and the Coryn Tormala skated into the slot with a three-on-two advantage. Tormala passed over to Kate Thurman along the side of the net and her quick shot beat UVM's Jessie McPherson.
  • 14 seconds into the third period Schafzahl came inches away from giving UVM the lead. Off a won faceoff UVM entered the zone with a numbers advantage. McCool found Schafzahl trailing on the play and she fired a shot off the bar and out. The Catamounts outshot UConn 9-1 in the final frame of regulation but couldn't solve Chan.
  • In five minutes of three-on-three action Vermont outshot the Huskies 6-3 but neither team could convert.
  • In the shootout Pátková got things started with a great move for the Catamounts. She faked a double move and then roofed a backhand into the empty net past Chan who went the wrong direction. Jessie McPherson made three stops on Amy Landry, Meghane Duchesne-Chalifoux and Carlie Magier to seal the extra point for Vermont.
