COACH'S QUOTE
"This group has something very special," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "We didn't come out with the energy I hoped today, but good days and bad, they play with a belief in each other that you don't always see in teams. We'll recharge and get back to work particularly on our finishing skills this week."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Reggie Hillery nearly got the Cats on the board with a backhand shot that found the back of the cage but it was ruled to be an illegal shot so the goal was taken off the board.
- Julia Jamesley staked Colgate to a first-half lead after a UVM turnover in the circle. She slotted a loose ball just inside the left post for her second of the season.
- UVM tied the game on a quick counterattack with five minutes left in the third quarter. Alina Gerke found Hillery at the top of the circle and her shot was deflected in by Maddie Moran.
- Sophia Lefranc got a great chance five minutes into the first overtime but blasted a backhand shot just high of the Raider net.
- The Catamounts applied consistent pressure throughout the overtime periods and it finally paid off with just under five minutes remaining in double-overtime. Gerke corralled a rebound off her own shot outside of the circle, made three Colgate defenders miss and flicked a clinical forehand to the back of the cage to win it for Vermont.
