BALTIMORE – Ryan Becher's 88th-minute penalty kick was the difference maker, as UMBC (9-4-2, 3-2-0 AE) defeated 10th-ranked Vermont (12-2-1, 4-1-0 AE) 2-1 on Saturday night at Retriever Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts and Retrievers played to a scoreless opening half, with Vermont holding a 2-0 shot advantage.
- Alex Nagy netted the game's first goal in the 67th minute to give the Cats a 1-0 lead. The UVM midfielder won the ball off a UMBC defender inside the 18-yard box and fired a low center shot past Quantrell Jones (4 saves) for his sixth goal of the season.
- UMBC countered with offensive pressure and nearly took the lead when Becher's point-blank shot was denied by a diving Nate Silveira (5 saves).
- Taylor Calheira eventually tied the game when he found the lower left corner in the 83rd minute. Becher and William Forby were credited with assists on the equalizer.
- Jordan Ehart drew the foul that resulted in the late penalty kick as UMBC went on the counter attack. Becher was tabbed to take the penalty kick and directed a shot into the lower left corner for the clinching tally.

- Calheira's 83rd-minute goal snapped Vermont's shutout streak, which spanned over seven games, and a program-best 792:44 of game play.
- The Catamounts' winning streak comes to an end after 11 games – the second longest streak in program history.
