COACH'S QUOTE
"Tough ending for us after battling back throughout the game but BU deserves credit for playing and excellent game," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "I'm disappointed that we can't execute consistently and eventually you pay for that. There's a lot to learn from this weekend and we will focus on getting better for the Merrimack series."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Theresa Schafzahl opened the scoring for the Catamounts 8:28 into the contest. In transition Schafzahl received a feed from Corinne McCool and along with Natálie Mlýnková they entered the BU zone with speed. Schafzahl held up on the play and the BU defenders went with Mlýnková and McCool. Given some space Schafzahl skated into the slot and rifled a perfect shot just under the bar for her team-leading 11th goal of the season.
- Boston University took its first lead of the weekend series with two power play goals 1:59 apart late in the first period. Julia Nearis scored her fifth goal of the season at the 16:28 mark and Martin struck with 1:33 to play in the opening period.
- Vermont equalized on their own power play with 5:53 to go in the middle frame. Lilly Humphrey one-timed a shot from right in front of the BU net. Callie Shanahan made a pad save but the rebound came right to Ellice Murphy on the doorstep and she slotted it home for her fourth goal of the season. Mlýnková earned the secondary assist.
- Humphrey's own power play marker put the Catamounts up with 5:50 to play in the third period. Mlýnková centered a feed to Sini Karjalainen who one-timed a shot towards the BU net. It was blocked in traffic but Humphrey corralled the puck and quickly beat Shanahan five-hole to give UVM the lead.
- Just 1:15 later BU tied things up in transition. Nearis found Madison Cardaci at the side of the net on a two-on-one and Cardaci made no mistake slotting home her second of the season.
- The Terriers ended things quickly in the extra session to earn the extra point. Martin broke in alone on McPherson and fired a hard-low shot. McPherson made the initial save but the puck deflected off a UVM player backchecking on the play and found the back of the net.
