COACH'S QUOTE
"It was great to see our offensive connection develop in a variety of ways today," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "We showed some grit in the attacking circle, finishing on two broken corners, and creating a number of other scoring opportunities while under pressure from Sacred Heart. Overall, we reached a new level of consistency in our passing game and team defense."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts got off to a fast start Sunday scoring 1:19 into the contest. Sacred Heart's Samantha Maresca made an initial save on a shot from Haley Buffenbarger but the rebound remained loose around the goal line and Hall tapped it home for her first goal of the season.
- Vermont doubled its advantage 3:26 into the second quarter. Sophia Drees drove to the end line and fed a through ball right to Hall in front of Maresca. Hall gathered the ball, spun and fired a shot home for her second goal of the game.
- The Catamounts extended their lead with 1:48 to go in the third frame. Vermont's Meg Weyer forced a turnover at midfield and UVM took advantage in transition. Sophia Lefranc received a stretch pass and split two Sacred Heart defenders and as she was running to her right she fired back to the left for her first career collegiate goal.
- 3:22 into the fourth quarter the Catamounts put this one out of reach with a goal following a penalty corner won by Hall. Vermont originally mishandled the corner by Drees settled the ball down and passed it over to Alina Gerke. Gerke unleashed a wicked backhand to make it 4-0.
- Sacred Heart's Emma Bayford closed out the scoring with 5:07 to go.
