MORGAN STANLEY PETER BALDWIN COMMUNITY YOUTH SOCCER WEEKEND
Vermont soccer will be hosting a doubleheader on Sunday as a part of the Morgan Stanley Peter Baldwin Community Youth Soccer Weekend. The UVM women will be hosting conference foe UMBC at 12 p.m., followed by the men's game against UC Irvine at 7 p.m. The annual Peter Baldwin Games allow us to honor Peter's memory, and his commitment to the special Vermont community through both his time at UVM and his work at Morgan Stanley. Baldwin, a 1968 graduate and 1984 UVM Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, guided the Vermont men's soccer team to three straight Yankee Conference titles and currently ranks fifth on the school's all-time scoring list. Thank you, Morgan Stanley, for making this game possible and being a proud partner of UVM Athletics.

SCOUTING THE ANTEATERS
UC Irvine is in search of its first win of the season when it makes the trip to the Northeast. The Anteaters visit New Hampshire on Friday (Sep. 16) before heading to Burlington. UCI opened the season with losses to a pair of ranked opponents: No. 23 UCLA (L, 1-0) and No. 19 Missouri State (L, 3-0). UC Irvine's lone tie came against Cal on Sept. 2. The Anteaters hosted Cornell earlier this season, and suffered a 1-0 loss to the Big Red. UC Irvine was selected as one of the preseason favorites in the Big West along with UC Santa Barbara. Midfielders Ashish Chattha, Robert Mejia, and Francesco Montanile were named to the Preseason All-Big West team.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and UC Irvine meet for the first time in series history on Sunday night. The Catamounts play a team from the Golden State for the first time since 2017 when they made the trip out West to face Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside. Vermont last hosted a California school in 2016 when Cal State Fullerton visited Virtue Field. UVM defeated Fullerton 3-2 (2OT) in the 2016 matchup with Brian Wright scoring the clinching marker. UC Irvine will be the 10th different California school to face Vermont.
Â
EARLY GRIND
The Catamounts have grinded through the second toughest schedule in the nation at this point in the season. Vermont's past opponents have a .783 winning percentage (17-4-2) against other opposition through Sept. 15. Syracuse, who UVM tied 1-1, currently ranks inside the nation's Top 25 by the United Soccer Coaches.
Â
IVY SWEEP
UVM completed a sweep of its Ivy League opponents this season with the 2-1 victory over Cornell on Tuesday night. Prior to that contest, the Catamounts had earned a road victory at Princeton (W, 2-0) and a home win against Harvard (W, 2-1). The trio of victories mark the first time that the Catamounts have defeated three Ivy League opponents in a single season.
Â
NO. 1 IN THE NORTHEAST
The Catamounts enter Sunday's game ranked No. 1 in the Northeast Region by the United Soccer Coaches. Vermont also received votes in the national poll.
