COACH'S QUOTE
"It was a very disappointing ending today," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "In a lot of ways, we played better than in a lot of our recent games but we weren't able to finish. Credit to BU for hanging in there and their goalie was outstanding. We have to play with more urgency and attention to detail so we can finish better. We are entering the homestretch of the season and we need to be dialed in for every game."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers opened the scoring just 2:53 into the contest. Christina Vote entered the Vermont zone and dropped the puck to a cutting Catherine Foulem. From a sharp angle Foulem wired a shot past UVM's Jessie McPherson for her fourth goal of the season.
- Vermont equalized with 3:16 left in the opening frame. Evelyne Blais-Savoie made an excellent defensive play stripping a Boston University player of the puck as she cut towards the net. Blais-Savoie's defensive check pushed the puck out to the neutral zone and Lara Beecher was the first to the puck with nobody to beat. While being harassed from behind Beecher tried to go five-hole on BU's Andrea Brändli. Brändli made the initial save but Blais-Savoie followed the play and roofed the rebound for her 11th goal of the season.
- Vermont had 14 shots in the second period, including two on its only power play of the game but couldn't find the go-ahead goal.
- Jessie McPherson made nine saves in the third period and for the second time this season these two teams headed to overtime.
- In overtime Brooke Disher caused a UVM turnover at their own blue line with an aggressive play and Nearis was able to skate in alone on McPherson. Nearis got McPherson moving from the left to her right and tucked a backhand home for her 10th goal of the season.
