COACH'S QUOTE
"Obviously we are disappointed with the outcome but we played much better today," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "We needed to prove to ourselves that we could rise to the occasion and compete harder with more focus. It's a long season and there will be ups and downs. I feel like we have learned some things from the last few weekends that will help us down the road. On to Northeastern on Tuesday."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Maine took an early lead with a shorthanded goal 9:17 into the first period. After a clear attempt by Haley Ryan, Rahel Enzler retrieved the loose puck, skated behind the net, and found Ida Kuoppala in the slot. Kuoppala capitalized, scoring the opening goal.
- Vermont responded with a goal 14:41 into the first period, leveling the score at one. Evelyne Blais-Savoie connected with Anna Podein, who then set up Hailey Eikos in the neutral zone. Eikos skated through the Black Bear's defense and netted her first career goal with a shot from the right faceoff circle.
- The Catamounts seized the lead 17:01 in the opening frame. Hailey Eikos passed back to Ezra Oien, who released a shot from just inside the blue line. Oien's shot found the net, marking her first career goal, slipping past Julia Bachetti (26 saves).
- Maine bounced back with a power play goal 9:43 in the second period. Alyssa Wruble, on a three-on-one rush, fed Enzler in the slot. Though Sydney Correa (14 saves) initially denied Enzler, Ann-Frederique Guay collected the rebound and scored from just outside the crease, tying the game at two.
- Ida Kuoppala secured her second goal of the game in the third period. Elise Morphy delivered a pass to Kuoppala at the left point, and she netted the go-ahead goal with 8:05 remaining. Guay received the secondary assist on the play.
