COACH'S QUOTE
"Hockey can be such a cruel game at times and this game, and this weekend is an example of that," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "We played some of our best hockey of the year tonight and unfortunately don't have the result we wanted. I'm proud of this group for their resilience and their dedication to what we are doing. It's a long season and we will come through stronger."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period while Vermont led in shots on goal 11 to four. Lara Beecher created the best opportunity for the Cats, just missing on a wrist shot that deflected off the left post.
- The defensive battle continued into the second frame with Vermont successfully killing off three New Hampshire power plays to keep the game scoreless. The Wildcats narrowly led in shots on goal five to four in the period.
- With seven minutes remaining in the third period, Kira Juodikis' power play goal for New Hampshire was disallowed after it was deemed to have been punched in with her glove.
- The Wildcats finally broke through scoring the go-ahead goal with 2:07 remaining in the third period. From behind the net, Annie Berry fed a diving Nicole Kelly in the low slot who lifted the puck into the net past Jessie McPherson (14 saves). Marina Alvarez was credited with the secondary assist.
