COACH'S QUOTE
"First of all, it was great to send our seniors out on such a positive note," Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "They have transformed this program and they deserved to go out with a win on Senior Day. Really happy for Jessie McPherson to get the shutout.  Maine was a very good team today and this game was much more difficult than the score would suggest.  Theresa Schafzahl and Corinne McCool were also outstanding and it was key for us to get off to a quick start today. We have two big games left in the regular season and we need to be even better to be ready for the playoffs."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vermont opened the scoring 2:47 into the first period. In transition Schafzahl fired on net and Maine's Anna Larose made the initial save but the rebound sat out in front. McCool pounced on the rebound and one-timed it past Larose for her 13th goal of the season. Evelyne Blais-Savoie earned the secondary assist on the play.
  • Just under two minutes late the Catamounts top line struck again. McCool centered a feed to Blais-Savoie and she redirected it on net. Again, Larose made the initial stop but Blais-Savoie followed up her own shot and tapped it home for her 12th goal of the year. Schafzahl earned the secondary assist this time around.
  • 16 seconds into the third period the Black Bears earned a five-on-three power play for 1:02 of game action. The Catamounts kept Maine to the outside and allowed only one shot on net.
  • With 3:39 to play Schafzahl ensured everyone would come home happy this afternoon depositing her 19th goal of the season into the empty net.
  • Vermont's Jessie McPherson made eight saves in each period on the way to earning her fourth shutout of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ellice Murphy matched her season-high with a game-high five blocked shots Saturday. As a team Vermont blocked 18 shots.
  • This afternoon's crowd of 676 was Vermont's second largest home attendance of the season.
  • After Saturday's action in Hockey East the Catamounts remain in second place with 51 points. They sit five points ahead of No. 13 Providence. UVM cannot finish lower than third in the league.
  • With today's 3-0 decision, Community Bank N.A. will donate $225 to Special Olympics Vermont. Community Bank, N.A. donates $75 per goal to Special Olympics Vermont for every goal the men's and women's team scores this season.
  • With today's win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to King Street Center as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative. Since its inauguration in 2017, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group has donated over $80,000 to local non-profits through the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative.
