BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont opened their 2023 season on a brand-new surface at Moulton Winder Field with a comfortable 6-2 win over Sacred Heart. The six goals mark the second time in two years that the Catamounts have put up six goals in a contest.
Vermont starts the season at 1-0 with the win while Sacred Heart falls to 0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alina Gerke scored the first goal of the new season as she fired a backhand shot from the top of the key after a nice feed from Sophia Lefranc in the 11th minute.
- The second quarter saw Vermont score two more as Gerke and Sophia Drees each scored.
- The Cat's defense held strong as they stopped three penalty corners within a minute.
- The Pioneers got off to a quick start in the second half as Isabelle Chamberlain scored off an assist from Ines Braithwaite.
- In the 34th minute, Mora Fernandez de Oliveira corralled an aerial pass from Drees in the circle and flicked a backhand into the side netting to restore the three-goal lead.
- Drees and Lefranc added goals late in the third quarter to bring the lead to five.
- Sacred Heart pulled one back with a little more than six minutes to go as Helena Stoever scored off an assist from Chamberlain.

- Lauren Halenkamp's first collegiate start saw her post three saves as she picked up her first career victory.
- Drees (6 points) and Lefranc (4 points) both set new career-highs in points.
- The Catamounts are now 15-0 under Head Coach Kate Pfeifer when scoring four or more goals in a game.
