COACH'S QUOTE
"Hats off to Cornell, they're a very good team," head coach
Rob Dow said. "I think we're fortunate to catch them in their first game of the season. We'll expect to see them later in the year, I think in the NCAA Tournament. Four our team to bounce back after a tough loss on the road, to come back and play a top opponent, like Cornell and get the win and make some game changing plays;
Owen Jack,
Niels Hartmann,
Andrew Millar. Those are good qualities that we need to build off and we're excited to focus on Colgate next."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts and Big Red jockeyed for momentum in the early minutes with Millar recording the only shot before the midway point of the first half.
- Millar's winning tally came in the the 30th-minute, to give Vermont the lead. The sophomore pounced on a Cornell turnover inside the 18-yard box and rifled a shot into the upper right corner. Millar volleyed the ball to himself before delivering the scoring kick.
- Cornell threatened to tie the game less than a minute later on a dangerous shot by Alioune Ka that sailed wide of the right post. Ka's shot was the final chance of the half for the Big Red as Vermont would take a 1-0 lead into the break.
- Cornell pushed the UVM defense in the second half, outshooting the Catamounts 4-1 in the first 15 minutes of the frame. Matthew Goncalves nearly scored the equalizer in the 60th minute when his shot from long range clanked off the crossbar.
- The non-conference foes exchanged chances in the 63rd minute, with Vermont nearly pulling ahead 2-0 on a shot by Jacob Vitale. Carter Johnson's touch freed up the UVM forward, who neared the Big Red goal before getting denied by Ryan Friedberg (3 saves). Cornell countered with a quick attack off of a throw in that found Westin Carnevale who's shot forced Owen Jack (5 saves) to dive to his right for his first stop of the night.
- Jack came up with the play of the night in the 88th minute when he stopped Alex Harris on a breakaway to preserve the UVM lead.
