COACH'S QUOTE
"It was a great hockey game today at UConn and I am very proud of our team's effort," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "Some might say that a scoreless game is boring but the competitive level on display by both teams was outstanding and it was a chess match on ice with neither team giving an inch of territory. This was another step forward for us and I'm excited for us to return home next weekend."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a scoreless opening period, the defensive battle continued into the second with neither team finding the back of the net after 40 minutes. UConn earned the best opportunity when Allard intercepted a Vermont pass in the neutral zone creating a two-on-one rush for the Huskies. Allard delivered a cross-crease pass to Jada Habisch who fired a shot just off the nearside post.
- With just under 12 minutes left in regulation, Sara Levesque executed a spectacular diving back check, thwarting a breakaway opportunity for the Huskies.
- Neither team scored in the three-on-three overtime period. Vermont led the extra time in shots on goal four to three.
- Natalie Mlynkova scored during the shootout to level the score 1-1 after Peterson's successful attempt. Allard then skated in on Jessie McPherson and skillfully finished to secure UConn the additional point.
