Field Hockey Defeats UMass Lowell for Important Victory

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 3, UMass Lowell 1
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Meg Weyer and Sophia Drees each had three points as Vermont (5-7, 2-2 AE) defeated UMass Lowell (7-6, 2-2 AE) for the first time since 2019 on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Drees opened the scoring in the seventh minute when she scored off a penalty corner with assists from Marie Dijkstra and Weyer.
  • Karli Penrod tied the game in the 14th minute off an assist from Alissia De Vries.
  • Lotte Kanters gave Vermont the 2-1 lead in the 34th minute off an assist from Drees.
  • Weyer made it 3-1 when she dove into tapping in an assist from Dijkstra in the 55th minute.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • With her 34th-minute assist, Drees is now the Catamounts record-holder for career assists.
  • Dijkstra recorded the second multi-assist game of her career with her assists to Drees and Weyer.
  • Weyer has a career-high of 14 points in the season, as she has recorded career highs in goals (4) and assists (6).
 
UP NEXT
The Catamounts will play again on Sunday (Oct. 20) when they take on Merrimack. The game will begin at 3 p.m. and be streamed live on America East TV.
