Women’s Hockey Heads to UNH for Weekend Set with the Wildcats

BURLINGTON, Vt. – After their most recent weekend series with #6 St. Lawrence at home, Vermont travels over to Durham, New Hampshire for a two-game series with the Wildcats. Friday's (Oct. 25) game is set for a 6 p.m. start from the Whittemore Center. The teams will face off again at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 26) to close out the weekend series. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Saturday's contest also airing live on NESN.

VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • The Catamounts most recently split a weekend series with #6 St. Lawrence, defeating the Saints 1-0 on Friday thanks to a 36 save shutout from Jane Gervais, her first shutout in the Green and Gold, and a game-winning goal from Lara Beecher in the first period of action, her third goal of the season. St. Lawrence bounced back the next day, earning a 5-0 shutout win of their own.  
  • Vermont returns a handful of familiar faces including member of the 2024 Hockey East All-Rookie Team, Kaylee Lewis, who finished her first season with 10 goals and eight assists for 18 total points, good for third most amongst Hockey East rookies last season. UVM also brings back Evelyne Blais-Savoie, who earned 21 total points last season on seven goals and 14 assists, good for second highest on the team. The 2023 Hockey East Rookie of the Year, Beecher, returns for her third season in a Catamount uniform after posting a 19-point season in 2023-24 on nine goals and 10 assists.
  • Josie Hemp recorded her first career collegiate point vs #6 St. Lawrence, earning an assist on the game-winning goal. Rose-Marie Brochu also registered an assist on the game-winning goal, securing her first point on the season.
  • Vermont has dominated in the faceoff circle to begin the season, ranking eighth in the Nation in faceoff win percentage with a 57.5% success rate. Blais-Savoie is at the forefront of these wins for UVM, individually ranking eighth in the Nation and first in the Hockey East Conference with 87 total wins on the season.
  • Beecher is sitting at third in the Hockey East in game-winning goals after her loan tally vs #6 St. Lawrence propelled the Catamounts to their first win against a ranked opponent this season.
  • Beecher also ranks fourth in Hockey East in goals per game, scoring three goals in five games thus far. Overall, Beecher is tied for sixth in Hockey East in total goals.
  • Gervais' 36-save shutout vs the Saints put her at 14th in the nation and third in Hockey East for total shutouts so far this season.
  • Overall, Gervais has the fifth most saves out of every Hockey East goaltender so far this season, 123 total saves.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
  • UNH is 3-2-1 overall on the campaign so far and 0-2-0 in Hockey East play.
  • UNH has earned victories over Assumption, and most recently a weekend sweep of Union, winning 2-1 and 1-0. The Wildcats' two losses came from a weekend series with #9 UConn, losing 5-1 and 2-0.
  • The Wildcats penalty kill has been perfect all season, successfully defending all 14 opponent powerplays on the campaign so far.
  • Wildcat goalie Sedona Blair has notched two shutouts this season, good for second in the Nation and first in the Hockey East.
  • New Hampshire is led by senior forward Brooke Hammer, who has posted four points on one goal and three assists.
  • UVM holds a 21-32-8 all-time record vs UNH with the most recent win coming on Oct. 28, 2023, in a 2-1 win from Gutterson Fieldhouse.
