Catamounts Fall in Third Place Game to Alaska Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Vermont (3-4) fell 68-52 to Alaska Anchorage (6-1) in the third-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout on Saturday night in Anchorage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams opened the game by trading buckets. Keira Hanson opened the scoring for the Catamounts by hitting two threes to make it six with four minutes left in the first quarter.
  • The Seawolves then went on a 9-2 run over the next three minutes, with Malia Lenz getting the only bucket for Vermont in that stretch to make it 15-8 in favor of Alaska Anchorage.
  • The Catamounts scored six more points in the first quarter through four points from Anna Olson and a bucket from Bella Vito.
  • Vermont kept with the Seawolves for the first four and a half minutes of the second quarter, scoring nine points. Catherine Gilwee and Hanson had threes while Vito scored, and Olson had a free throw.
  • The Catamounts closed the second quarter on an 8-5 run to make it 40-31 heading into the half. Vito had six, and Olson had two to help cut the deficit to single digits.
  • Alaska Anchorage outscored Vermont 5-3 heading into the third media timeout, with Olson scoring all three points.
  • The Catamounts scored seven points the rest of the quarter, with four from Vito, two from Olson, and a free throw from Lenz.
  • Olson scored Vermont's first four points of the fourth, hitting two free throws and a turnaround jumper.
  • The Catamounts matched the Seawolves by scoring seven in the last five minutes, with Emma Haan hitting a three and Olson and Hanson having two.

  • Olson and Vito were Vermont's leading scorers, with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Vito's six field goals matched a career high.
  • Vito, Olson, and Lenz combined for 24 of the Catamount's 30 rebounds, with nine, eight, and seven, respectively, for each.
  • Hanson matched a season-high for three-pointers made with three and recorded double-digit points for the second time this season with 11 points.  
  • Lenz set a career high in blocks with two on the night as she recorded her first career start.
