COACH'S QUOTE
"Unfortunately, this was the one game this week of the three we played that I didn't think we were the better team," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. Maine took advantage of some big mental and physical errors we made at key times of the game that really gave them momentum. I'm happy that we were able to finally break our scoring drought but we certainly have some things to clean up as we head to Minnesota-Duluth this weekend."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont struck first, scoring on the powerplay 15:34 into the opening frame when Hailey Eikos fired a shot on net from the point, finding the stick of Kaylee Lewis who tipped the puck into a prime spot for Rose-Marie Brochu to bury her second goal of the season, earning the Catamounts a 1-0 advantage.
- Less than two minutes later, 17:01 into the first period, the Black Bears responded, knotting the game at 1-1 thanks to a power play goal from Elise Morphy, getting rewarded after waiting back-door for the right opportunity, securing her first goal of the season.
- 39 seconds into the second frame, Maine scored its second goal of the game, successfully executing a two-on-one opportunity when Adriana Van De Leest buried a pass from Alyssa Wruble, giving the Black Bear's their first lead, 2-1.
- The Catamounts nearly found an equalizing goal with less than four minutes to play in the second period, seeing Evelyne Blais-Savoie rip a snapshot in the slot, ringing the puck off the crossbar enabling Maine to maintain its 2-1 advantage.
- Similar to the start of the second period, the Black Bears began the final frame scoring just 22 seconds in, gaining the 3-1 lead. An impressive solo effort from Mikayla Boarder resulted in a backhand shot to the top right corner, securing her third goal on the season.
- No goals were scored for the remainder of the game as the Black Bears skated away with the 3-1 road victory.
