FINAL SCORE (OT): Vermont 1, Holy Cross 2
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Despite Vermont nearly doubling its shots on net compared to Holy Cross (29 shots for UVM, 15 for Holy Cross) and seemingly controlling the time of possession, the Catamounts fell 2-1 in overtime to the Crusaders on Saturday afternoon from Gutterson Fieldhouse during the teams annual Teddy Bear Toss game presented by TD Bank. COACH'S QUOTE
"Heartbreaking outcome for us today in a game that we dominated," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "But that's hockey and it's on us to find ways to put the puck in the net. It's just disappointing to play that well and have that much puck possession and offensive zone time and not come out with the win. That said we certainly competed with passion and purpose and if we keep doing that, we will find success."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a scoreless first period, the Catamounts were able to limit Holy Cross to zero shots on goal, entering the first intermission knotted up, 0-0.
- Following another scoreless period, with Vermont outshooting the opponent, 18-4, Ashley Kokavec scored the opening goal 9:59 into the final period, corralling the puck from Julia Mesplède, toe dragging the puck around a defender, and pinning her shot five-hole on the Crusader goalie once reaching the slot, securing her second goal of the season to give Vermont a 1-0 lead.
- The Crusaders responded, scoring 3:16 later when Madison Michals found the back of the net, equalizing the game at 1-1. No goals were scored for the remainder of the match, sending the game to overtime.
- Holy Cross skated away with the overtime win when Alexia Moreau sniped her shot top shelf over the left shoulder 2:31 into the extra period, earning the Crusaders the 2-1 victory from Gutterson Fieldhouse.
