BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Maddie Erskine led a high-powered attack as Vermont (2-0) defeated Gardner-Webb (0-1) 20-6 on Sunday afternoon at Spangler Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Erskine opened the scoring for the Catamounts when she converted on a free-position attempt 1:53 into the game.
- Emma Duchscherer tied the game at 1-1 on a free-position goal with 9:16 left in the first quarter.
- Erskine quickly put Vermont back in front when she drove around a defender and fired a shot into the upper left corner with 8:47 remaining in the frame.
- Trauger doubled the lead 0:47 later, splitting a pair of Gardner-Webb defenders and beating Lauren Cretella (5 saves) to go up 3-1.
- The UVM lead was cut to one on Duchscherer's goal of the season with 6:35 left in the first half.
- Erskine added her third goal of the quarter 0:21 later to put the Catamounts back up by 2.
- Ava Vasile made the score 5-2 less than a minute later when she received a pass from McKenzie Ballard, drove around a defender and found the back of the net with a shot.
- Minutes later, Kendall Traveis and Celia Begonia added goals to make the score 8-2 with 2:00 remaining in the first quarter. Begonia's goal was the first of her career.
- Erskine netted her fourth goal of the quarter in the final seconds to give UVM a 9-2 lead after one frame.
- Vasile opened the second quarter with a pair of goals, the first coming just 0:08 into the frame. Her second tally came off a feed from Brittany Barton to put Vermont up 11-2 with 10:58 left on the clock.
- Traveis opened up a 10-point lead, scoring a woman-up goal with 4:50 left in the half.
- Erskine and Licare closed out the half with goals in the final few minutes to carry a 14-2 lead into the break.
- Karina Sethi scored her first career goal 1:29 into the second half. Lauren Lefebvre made the score 16-2 exactly 3:00 later.
- Alera Cornett ended the scoring drought for the Runnin' Bulldogs when she netted her first goal of the season with 7:28 left in the third quarter.
- Begonia brought the lead back up to 14 goals with her second tally of the game, coming with 6:40 left in the frame.
- Lydia Doraz notched her first collegiate goal minutes later when she received a pass from Sethi and quickly released a shot into the back of the net to make the score 18-3.
- Trauger added her second goal of the game with 1:32 remaining to put the Cats up 19-3.
- Elizabeth Kaiser ended UVM's scoring with her first career goal, coming 2:03 into the final quarter.
- The Runnin Bulldogs recorded three goals over the final eight minutes to reduce the margin.     Â
