COACH'S QUOTE
"The special teams battle continues to be monumental at this level," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "We lost that battle tonight and we lost it in the worst way possible. Our PP needs to take a step and then some, it's just the truth. I was proud of our guys for getting up off the floor after last night and bringing effort, but it was completely wasted. I thought we had way too many self-inflicted wounds tonight versus the best team in the nation and that falls on me."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont gained the early 1-0 advantage on the power play 0:35 into the opening puck drop. Jeremie Bucheler sent the puck down to Ryan Miotto who crashed the net resulting in the puck dribbling out to Chris Theodore, wide open to bury the puck for his seventh of the season.
- A turnover in the defensive zone by Vermont 6:04 into the period resulted in Ryan Leonard breaking free on a breakaway, cashing in on the penalty kill to give Boston College the equalizer goal, 1-1.
- Â Leonard tallied his second goal of the game 11:32 into the first period to put the Eagles up, 2-1.
- After a scoreless second period, Miotto got back on the score sheet with his ninth of the season, scoring 2:55 into the final frame after sniping the goalie glove side high to knot the score at 2-2. Jens Richards and Timofei Spitserov were awarded assists on the goal.
- A little over a minute later, Gauthier grabbed the lead back, shorthanded at the 4:07 mark of the third period.
- Will Smith would seal the deal for Boston College, scoring his 17th of the season 17:54 into the final period to give BC a 4-2 advantage.
